Educational Trip: Grade I to V - 21st to 23rd Sept-2022
The purpose of education is to prepare students for life. Therefore, incorporating the real world and real life connections into students’ learning at school helps them to understand ‘why’ what they’re learning at school is useful beyond the classroom and school, throughout their lives. Educational trips are a great way for students to connect the concepts they learn in class to the world outside. This experience is a very essential learning process. And of course, going out with friends to enjoy and learn together is an occasion that all children wait for with baited breath. Keeping this in mind, the students of Grade I to V were taken for an Educational Trip to provide them learning with fun, as at RKPS, besides books, we wish our children to learn from life itself which is the biggest teacher. The Educational Trip took place from 21st to 23rd September, 2022, during which the Grade I to V went to visit the following places: Grade: I & 2 Children Traffic Park, Collector Office Road, Trichy Grade: 3, 4 & 5 Science Planetarium, Kottappatu, Trichy

Every parent has a concern of how their child/children can build a solid foundation in reading and writing. At RKPS, we have a strong commitment for ‘Word Building’ in children, which is why we have an in-built mechanism within our daily teaching and learning sessions to strengthen the literacy skills of our students. Throughout the academic year, a few most commonly used words under ‘Sight Words’ which will help initiate our pre-schoolers to begin recognition of words are taught to them. On 22/07/2022, Friday, the Pre-KG, LKG & UKG Sections of the school had their ‘WORD BUILDING DAY’. Word building helps students to grasp ideas and think more logically. The more words children know, the more they can interpret concepts and express their own ideas better. Having a rich vocabulary will help children communicate in a more effective way. Parents are also requested to help their kids at home to build word recognition in their own ways to make the learning process more consistent and whole.

Story Telling Webinar - 07/08/2021
At RKPS, we have regular sessions of storytelling and singing rhymes. The importance of both, particularly for small children, cannot be overemphasized. Story telling connects children to myriad situations of life and nourishes their imagination. Small children enjoy different types of stories, and are especially captivated by fairy tales which mostly mirror the developmental struggles of children and their transition out of early childhood.
Through rhymes, children develop phonemic awareness which is an important precursor to reading. This is because most rhymes contain a lot of interjections or funny words which make them fun for children to read, .i.e., pronounce words. Rhymes play an important role in helping children repeat difficult groups of sounds and thereby improving their speech.
Telling stories and teaching rhymes to small children thus help them to learn and read new words at ease, improve their listening and speaking skills, make them aware of own culture and roots, help develop their creativity and imagination, sharpen their memory and increase their knowledge.
In association with Eversmile Pvt. Ltd, a Story Telling Session titled ‘Techniques of Story Telling & Rhyme Teaching for Kindergarten’ was conducted with Mrs.Suguna Manniketh, Story Teller & Facilitator as the resource person. The session was attended and enjoyed by our teachers, parents and students.

Doctors’ Webinars on Happy Parenting During Lockdown - 10/07/21 & 31/07/21
The corona virus pandemic and the consequent lockdown have completely changed the lives of everybody, parents and children included. As such, we at RKPS felt the need to educate and support our parents and students about the pandemic and create awareness of the necessary dos and don’ts that have newly come about in our personal lives, be it in our hygienic routines and habits, academics, lifestyle, or in our eating habits, social habits, travelling and entertainment, etc. In the midst of all these, the mental health of children is of utmost importance along with their physical health. Parenting plays a vital role in maintaining the overall wellbeing of children especially during these challenging times. Positive parenting will go a long way in keeping children mentally sound and abreast of the pandemic protocols and SOPs and brace them up during and after the lockdown.
Keeping this in mind, in association with Apollo Shine Foundation, two Exclusive Webinars on the topic ‘HAPPY PARENTING DURING LOCKDOWN’ were conducted for the parents of our school students on 10th & 31st July, 2021. The resource persons for the webinars were Dr.Indira Jayakumar, Senior Consultant, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit & Apollo Hospitals Medical Director & Dr. Divya.M, MBBS, DNB Pediatrics, Associate Consultant, Pediatrician, Apollo Specialty Hospital, Trichy, respectively.
Wealth from Waste & Fireless Cooking - 13-02-2021
To make our students learn about recycling used or unwanted products, the school held an event called WEALTH FROM WASTE on 13/02/21.
Students were educated on the concept of waste which is a natural by-product of human life and the growth of societies. Many things are discarded after their primary use leading to endless heaps of waste of countless variety. The event taught children that they can make things out of many waste products. They learned that waste can be lessened by the efforts of each individual as it is directly linked to our lifestyle choices, like turning off the lights and fans while leaving a room, using water sensibly, using both sides of a blank paper while printing, taking only as much food as we can eat on our plate, deciding not to use plastic bags, etc.
The objective of the event is to encourage the children make use of useless and discarded waste products to create something of value out of them. This will make them conscious of the ability to reduce pressure caused by waste on the environment and human health along with the possibility to generate economic opportunities out of waste at the grassroot level.

Fireless Cooking - 13-02-2021
A fireless cooking event was held at the school on 13/02/21. The event required the participants to cook without any flame. The objective of the programme is primarily to make children learn and enjoy cooking for a start. The fireless concept is meant for teaching valuable life skills like safety, protection, health, time management, etc. Fried and cooked items on fire sometimes pose health risks in the long run while fire causes concern for safety and environment pollution and climate change. Many food items like vegetables, fruits, green leaves, pulses, seeds, etc, are best when eaten fresh or just lightly steamed. Fireless cooking is useful and apt for children mostly due to its hazardless nature. It encourages and improves children’s creativity, thinking and problem solving skills and also their knowledge of basic skills like measuring, counting and following instructions.
The children prepared delicious dishes ranging from pongal, fruit salad, bread sandwich, vegetable salad, sweet mixture, juice, etc.
The participants enthusiastically enjoyed creating their newly learned healthy dishes under the concept of the safe and secure event organised specially for them. A number of students from other schools also participated in the events. The participants were categorised into three, viz, Category 1 for classes 1 & 2, Category 2 for classes 3-5 and Category 3 for classes 6 & 7. The winners were grandly felicitated by the school principal, Dr. K. Lalle, in the presence of the parents, while all the participants received a gift for their interest and involvement which made the day a beautiful and successful one.

Fancy Dress for KG Students - 12/12/2019
The concept of ‘fancy dress’ is something close to our hearts at RKPS because kids love it. For this event, we had kids dressing up as different characters, which will increase their knowledge about different people and cultures of the world. The event gave their imagination a run as they tried to figure out the most innovative costume for the event. The joy of the day was observing the children socialise and communicate with each other as they are pushed out of their comfort zone and made to mingle with each other in different costumes. This type of events encourages children to build relationships from an early stage, and also helps children develop emotionally and grow in imagination.
RKPS fancy dress events are an extension of children’s favourite films, television shows and books as we feel that the combinations of these mediums are important to bring children’s favourite characters to life.

Red Day - 23/07/2019
Colour is one of the most noticeable attributes of the world around us. It surrounds us everywhere, we experience it every day, and it has a subconscious effect in our daily lives. For small children, understanding colour is an essential building block for learning.
At RKPS, we teach and use colour not only to help strengthen and reinforce children’s basic colour recognition skills, but also to provide children with essential learning tools in life, like, to categorise, sort, compare and organise with colour recognition in Mathematics; to help children describe things using colour as a language tool, whereby children use different colours as a means of creative expression. We also teach colour as a visual cue to identify danger (red), to know the traffic lights, to distinguish hot from cold, etc.
The interiors and furniture of our classrooms are inbuilt with different colours as colours are an important part of children’s personal growth reflecting their developing personality and originality.
Red Day was celebrated on 23/07/19. It was a special and royal day with beautifully decked up decorations in red.
